WHO DAT?

We arrived to New Orleans a little past midnight, Saturday December 15. Since it was Jon's first time in NOLA it only made sense to drop our bags and head out so he could see, first hand, the insanity that is Bourbon Street on a Saturday evening. Over the years I have traveled to New Orleans a number of times for work; leaving me somewhat desensitized to the Bourbon Street madness. Jon needed only a few minutes on Bourbon to see how crazy it was and realize that you would be hard pressed to find another spot in the US that insane. After a quick walk around, we headed back to the hotel to get some rest.

We woke up the next morning and set out to explore the French Quarter. In the midst of shopping we found time to savor traditional New Orleans cuisine including Beignets at Cafe du Monde, Po boy sandwiches, alligator and more. By early afternoon it was time to drop our shopping bags at the hotel room and enjoy happy hour...or happy afternoon as its presented on Bourbon Street. Unfortunately,  nothing good can ever really come out of a three-for-one drink special and if it does, you are hard pressed to actually remember it all...WHO DAT.

By nightfall we were at My Bar enjoying the Zydeco music of a local band. The beauty of Bourbon Street is that you often stop in and out of a number of places as you make your way down the street. We left My Bar, wandered a few doors down and had the good fortune of meeting a lovely young couple visiting the States from Australia.

Lauren and Dayne were wonderful company for the rest of the evening. Our last stop of the night was The Cat's Meow and wow, can Lauren rock out to MC Hammer "You Can't Touch This" karaoke style. I was honored to be her back up singer and dancer during that performance. By 3:30 in the morning it was time to finally call an end to our day and say goodbye to Lauren and Dayne.

When we woke up a few hours later, we decided to take our time easing into the day...we had a long drive ahead of us whether we rushed out of the hotel or not. So we picked up some last minute items in the French Quarter and finally set out about 3:00 pm, Monday December 17.
