More from Greece!

Hi All,
Upon arriving to Athens, Greece we checked into our hotel and set out to explore a bit of the city. Although August is the travel month for locals, the effect of the crisis was evident everywhere we went...businesses were boarded up and some areas seemed almost abandoned.

Our hotel was situated in the Plaka district, a village within the city of Athens that surrounds the acropolis. There seemed to be a small amount of tourists wandering the Plaka and we breezed right in to visit the acropolis. As we zig-zagged our way up the mountain we were able to find comfort under the shade of strategically placed trees, a saving grace in the blazing heat of the day. The strenuous walk was worth all the effort. Once on top, the view was absolutely breathtaking and the ruins were the most impressive I have seen to date.

We left Athens the following morning via ferry and made our way to Santorini. Directly outside the port we found a car rental place that had one convertible left with our name on it. And off we went in search of our hotel in the Kamari beach area. After a wrong turn we found ourselves in ancient Thera where we made the most of the slight detour and took in the sight and view a top the mountain. We spent our days on the beach and drove into Fira and Oia at night to take in the world famous sunsets that Santorini is known for. After two days in Santorini, we boarded a ferry for Mykonos.

Mykonos is known for an active night life, dinners begin at 10 pm or later and the night clubs and bars stay open well past sunrise. We arrived back to our hotel at 8:30 am on our first evening there and opted to put our swimsuits on and head to the beach to finally get some sleep. After two days in Mykonos (I am not sure my body could have handled more), we made our way back to Athens for our return to Beirut.

Just 2 more weeks left on this adventure.....I will send one final update before returning to the US on September 4th.

Love, Nadia
